Gachatha Coffee Factory rests on a 392-acre piece of land situated on the slopes of the Aberdare mountain range in Nyeri County, about 150km north of Kenya’s capital Nairobi. Founded in 1963 the Gachatha Co-op has grown to now 1,542 members.
This coffee has undergone wet processing, whereby the skin and pulp are removed from the fresh cherries. Gachatha use a three set disc pulper for this and recirculated the water as part of their conservation efforts. After pulping, the coffee is fermented overnight to break down the sugars, before it is cleaned, soaked and dried on raised tables.
